CANCELLATION OF MATCHES DUE TO WEATHER
Please note that we will only assess the weather and agree with our opposition as to whether or not to cancel fixtures at 13h00 on the day of the fixtures. If matches are cancelled, your daughter will still be supervised by her coach, who will make use of the time to teach the players in an indoor environment. An SMS will be sent out to those parents affected by the cancellation and you are requested to collect your daughter by 16h00, which is when the supervision will end.
RETURN BUS TRIPS TO WGJS AFTER SPORTS FIXTURES
Please note that you will need to book a seat on a bus returning to WGJS after a fixture with the coach concerned. Once the bus has dropped your daughter safely at WGJS, supervision will end.
We have played two glorious fixtures against some tough opposition, namely Rustenburg and Springfield and our players have enjoyed themselves so much. It was a pleasure to see our U9’s at the side of the turf cheering their classmates on and making up new warcries! It was also lovely to see so many parents supporting their daughters! We fielded 12 teams on 3rd May 2018 in our effort to include as many of our players as possible. For some of our players, this term is the first opportunity they have had to actually play a hockey match. The players have enjoyed themselves and taken to their hockey and have already improved in positional play as well as their level of skill. Although we are constantly battling with securing astro facilities, we will endeavour to include as many of our players as possible in matches as the season progresses.
Due to high demand, the U9 and U10 D and E teams will no longer be training on Mondays and Tuesdays respectively but will train once during the Life Orientation slot and will have their second session on a Friday from 13h00 to 14h00.
It was good to give our girls a chance to play against Rustenburg recently and WGJS did extremely well, showing tenacity and courage on the court, but more importantly, enjoying themselves thoroughly. Our U13A’s are to be commended for a solid win against Rustenburg U13A, which is a fantastic achievement and augurs well for Inter-Schools. Unfortunately, the fixture against Grove on Wednesday 2 May 2018 was cancelled due to the weather. We will try to make this fixture up further on into the season.
Parents are requested not to stand on the netball court or at the fence and coach our girls – we have competent coaches in place to coach. We also believe in creating netball players who can think for themselves and shouting out directions merely confuses our young ladies. We encourage moms and dads to be moms and dads and leave the coaching to our coaches.
Due to high demand, players who have been selected for D and E teams will no longer be training during the afternoon slots on Mondays through Thursdays but will train once during the Life Orientation slot and have their second session on a Friday from 13h00 to 14h00.
Cross Country practices have kicked off during Life Orientation and after school. Due to lack of numbers on a Wednesday afternoon from 15h00 to 16h00, we have closed the Wednesday cross-country training session and will continue with only two sessions per week. These will take place on a Tuesday and a Thursday from 15h00 to 16h00. Races start next Friday, 11th May 2018. We have not yet received notification regarding the venue for the fixture on the above date. We have had a number of new signups and are looking forward to a fantastic season! Parents will be notified via email if their daughters are running in a Friday race.
Our young players are enjoying their chess! Matches have commenced and are proceeding well.
Due to low numbers participating in our Wednesday Life Orientation slot, we have dropped Wednesday swimming from the Life Orientation calendar for the winter season and will bring it back in term 4. Monday and Tuesday swimming sessions during Life Orientation will continue.
Winter extra-mural swimming sessions continue on a Tuesday and Thursday from 15h00 to 16h00. We encourage all our Summer Team swimmers to continue with swimming at least one session per week. Any swimmer aspiring to make a swimming team is encouraged to attend the LO session, where they can evaluate the level of fitness required in order to join the sessions. The coach will also be available to assess aspirant swimmers and give them feedback.
