ART ROOM NEWS
Your daughter would have proudly brought home her 2019 Art folder. There are more artworks that will be handed out before the end of the year after she has chosen her Exhibition piece. We are excited about the Art Exhibition Opening on Tuesday 29 October. There will be an opportunity for you to view the Exhibition in the Gym hall for the following two afternoons.
A great idea for keeping your daughter’s artworks is to take photos of them and choose one a year to go in a frame. Their art is like keeping a visual diary.
The Tiptoe Choir for Grade 1C and 1D will start on Wednesday, 2 October 2019.
Which musical instrument should my daughter learn?
We encourage you to take your daughter to music concerts, listen to classical music online and watch Youtube clips of different instruments to help your daughter distinguish between the different sounds.
The following instruments may be taken at these ages:
- Age 5 upwards: Cello and Recorder
- Age 7 upwards: violin, Orff Ensemble
- Age 8 upwards: Piano, Orff Ensemble, Junior Saxophone (JSax), Clarineo, Fife or Toot Flute
- Age 9 upwards: Guitar, Clarinet, Flute
- Age 10 upwards: Saxophone, pipe organ
When a decision has been reached and you would like to put your daughter onto the waiting lists for instruments, then, please approach the finance office for a Music Application Form, or download one from the school website. While your daughter is on the waiting list, we highly recommend that you let her join the Junior Orff group (Grade 1,2) or the Senior Orff Group (Grades 3,4) as this will develop her musical skills in preparation for starting an instrument.
Please apply for music only if your daughter shows a real interest in an instrument and is prepared to practise daily at home.

Grade 7 music auditions for WGHS
The HOD of the Music Department and the HOD of Culture came to talk to all the Grade 7s about their choices next year.
They confirmed that students who wish to take the Music elective in Grade 8 at WGHS will need to audition for either of these two streams:
- Music General – no preparation needed for the audition.
- Music Special – prepare 1 piece and scales.
The date of the audition will be announced.
