Term Four is a very short term for extra-mural sports!
We will complete all our extra-mural fixtures before the commencement of examinations. As WGJS closes at 13h00 from 7th November 2019, Life Orientation sports hour will no longer take place and there will be no extra murals. The only exception will be hockey and netball trials for the selection of players for our annual sports tour to the All Girls’ Festival, which will be held in East London at the end of March 2020. These trials will take place on a Friday from 12h45 to 13h45 and the girls will be notified of the trial dates.
Please consult your private extra-mural coaches as to their timetables this term and their lessons during the examination period and beyond.
On Friday 11 October 2019, WGJS hosted a wonderful swimming gala and our A and B Swimming squads participated in good spirits. It was a lovely afternoon of swimming and once again our girls made us proud with their enthusiasm and effort. Special mention must go to our U13A swimmers who wowed the crowds with their awesome performances.
Water-polo matches are a highlight for many of our girls and it is amazing to see them embrace the cold waters of outside water-polo pools to play the game they love! We have a lot of very keen youngsters and are enjoying helping them to learn and grow.
Tennis matches will take place on the next three Thursdays and our teams are already showing their huge improvement during the course of this year by being victorious against some tough opposition.
For those writing examinations, bear in mind that exercise is an excellent way to spend your breaks whilst studying. Research has shown that exercise, even if it is a short walk, increases the ability to learn and to retain information. It can also ease tension and anxiety. The Sports Department encourages our learners to continue with some form of exercise during the study and examination periods.
