Well done to our Tennis teams which have really outdone themselves this term. Our U13A team excelled and proved to opposition schools that Tennis is on the up and up at WGJS and they better watch out!! We are proud of all the teams and cannot wait to start the Tennis year in 2020!
Water-polo is supposed to be a summer sport and we must pay tribute to all our Water-polo players who braved freezing conditions, very cold pools and late afternoon matches this term. They have loved their Water-polo and the strength in numbers in the pool augurs well for 2020!
Swimming Galas are always a highlight and it was amazing to see our Under 7s participate in their first galas. They were very excited and enjoyed being with the “big” girls immensely.
Our girls have loved trying out a new sport this term – “Ultimate Frisbee”. Thank you to coach, Sam Fothergill of Cape Town Ultimate, and our WGJS staff coaches for making this opportunity available to the girls. GENERAL SPORTING NEWS
The sporting term is drawing to a close, with exams and early closing signalling the end of extramural sports for 2019. This will give our busy Sports Department time to reflect on 2019 and plan for 2020!
We thank all our amazing teachers and coaches for giving of their time and energy to engage with our sporting girls so actively and for their constant support for our girls. Their efforts are deeply appreciated by us and by the girls in whose best interests we strive to work.
What remains to do are two Inter-house swimming galas, which will take place during school time and which are not open to parents, as well as a show-casing activity for Grade R which takes place in the next few weeks. We will also have a Cheerleading display of which we are extremely proud – our Cheerleading girls from Grade 3 to Grade 7 have been incredible and learnt some very complicated moves and stunts, which they will show to the school during the last week of term.
