Hockey matches against Herschel were excellent and it is good to see our basics improving weekly. U9’s are still playing “Sockey” (a mixture of soccer and hockey) but their technical ability is slowly improving. U10s and U11s have grasped positional play dynamics and are playing good hockey. The U13A and U13B teams made us so proud by drawing both of their matches with Herschel. Our girls fought a good fight and dug deep to achieve these results. Well done!
A reminder that the U9 and U10 D and E teams will no longer be training on Mondays and Tuesdays respectively, but will train once during the LIfe Orientation slot and will have their second session on a Friday from 13h00 to 14h00. The Friday sessions are an excellent opportunity for our players to get in some quality technical coaching as well as game time. Please encourage your daughter to attend!
Good matches all round against Greenfields! Well done!
A reminder that parents and spectators are not permitted to stand inside the netball courts. A further reminder that D and E teams will no longer be training during the afternoon slots on Mondays through Thursdays, but will train once during the Life Orientation slot and have their second session on a Friday from 13h00 to 14h00. The Friday sessions are proving to be a lot of fun and an opportunity for our girls to have technical coaching as well as play matches.
We welcome our new Cross Country Coach, Nic Notten, to the WGJS Sports Family. Nic already has our girls singing the Wynberg School song as they run, and it is brilliant to hear their chorus as they train in the afternoons. Our first race was a huge success, with our girls doing very well and having a lovely afternoon of running as well as socialising and making new friends with their peers from many other schools. A reminder that we have closed the Wednesday afternoon cross country slot from 15h00 to 16h00 and will continue with only two sessions per week. These are on a Tuesday and a Thursday from 15h00 to 16h00.
Our young players are enjoying their Chess! Matches have commenced and are proceeding well. This Friday both of our teams will play at Kirstenhof.
The General Knowledge team was out in full force on Friday the 11 May at the Interschool General Knowledge Quiz. We are so fortunate to have the biggest and brightest GK team in Wynberg history! Our head of General Knowledge, Sua Sung (7B), made sure the girls kept their heads and made our Wynberg family proud. The Grove hosted a challenging event, putting everyone through the ringer with mind-twisting questions- including our moms and dads! A special shout-out to our superstar of the week, Chloe Lallemand (6B), whose innate love for Science, Mathematics and everything literary made us beam. We are looking forward to doing even better at Round 2, which will be host by Herzlia on Friday, 17 August 2018.
