The Foundation Phase at Wynberg Girls’ Junior School spans Grades 1-3. Our class sizes range from 22-30 girls. This phase focuses on literacy and numeracy, laying the groundwork for the more senior grades where the focus changes from ‘learning to read’ to ‘reading to learn’.
We subscribe to a holistic education and are as concerned with our girls’ wellbeing and cultural development as we are with their academics. Most girls thrive in this environment, enjoying the opportunity to grow and excel. We offer Life Skills for each grade, in order to encourage healthy and wise decision making on the part of our girls. We believe that the outings, excursions and camps add value to the curriculum. Work ethic and attitude to learning are vital components which indicate a sense of responsibility and maturity.
For our Grade 7 girls, the focus is on preparation for high school. We encourage them to work more independently, take responsibility and focus on their time management and on study and research skills.
